Jon Ruben confessed to 17 offences at the courthouse on the end of the week

A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.

The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepchild contacted the authorities about his worries.

She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.

The prosecutor explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the authorities a second time.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five minors.
